SafeWise Names Yorktown One of the Safest Communities in New York
June 5, 2025 – Yorktown is one of the safest communities in New York, ranking #8 in a new report from SafeWise.
The SafeWise report indicates that Yorktown experienced a year-over-year decrease in both property crime and violent crime, contributing to its top ranking. SafeWise is an independent review site for home security and safety products.
Yorktown Police Chief Robert Noble attributed the community's safety to the dedication and professionalism of his force.
“We are proud of this recognition, which is a testament to the character, hard work and extensive training our officers undergo,” said Chief Noble. “As an accredited force, the Yorktown Police Department adheres to the highest standards in crime fighting, and our commitment to excellence is unwavering. Our partnership with the Yorktown community is second to none.”
Yorktown’s positive trend aligns with a broader sentiment across the Empire State, as SafeWise's most recent State of Safety report reveals that New York residents are less worried about their overall safety and security compared to the previous year.
Fewer than half (47%) of New Yorkers reported worrying about general crime and safety daily, a notable decrease from 59% the year before.
“On behalf of the entire community, I want to thank Chief Noble and every officer for their tireless dedication to protecting our residents and ensuring Yorktown remains a safe and welcoming place to live,” said Supervisor Ed Lachterman.
Yorktown was one of four municipalities in Westchester County to secure a spot in the top 10 list, underscoring the region's overall safety. Other local communities recognized include Bedford, ranked #1; Rye, ranked #3; and Scarsdale, ranked #7.
The SafeWise State of Safety report is a nationwide survey that delves into America’s top safety concerns. Over the past three years, SafeWise has surveyed more than 15,000 Americans—at least 300 from every state—to gather insights into their perceptions and attitudes about safety and crime.
