Yorktown Water District - Possible Water Testing Phone Scam
The Yorktown Water District (YWD) has heard from residents questioning recent phone calls they have received by parties claiming that a water sample recently taken at the resident's home has tested positive for lead in their drinking water. They state that, for a fee, they can retest the water to see if it in fact has high lead reads.
The District collects & tests water samples for Lead & Copper every three years as per NYS/Westchester County Departments of Health Comprehensive Monitoring Plan Schedules.
We last tested in 2023 & will next be sampling in 2026. All lead & copper samples collected by the YWD in 2023 met federal, state & county standards for lead and copper.
The calls that some residents have received in this regards are in fact bogus. The YWD recommends that residents do not respond to these type of calls.
