Annual Yorktown Lions' Halloween Parade and Carnival
The annual “Halloween Parade and Carnival,” sponsored by the Yorktown Lions and the Yorktown Parks & Recreation Department, will be held on Saturday, Oct. 18 (rain date Oct. 19) from 2 - 4 PM at the Jack Devito Veterans’ Memorial Field.
Children and their parents are asked to meet at the Yorktown Heights’ firehouse at 1:15 for their walk to the Jack Devito Veterans’ Memorial Field at 2:00 PM. Come in your Halloween costumes. Games, cartoon characters, and complimentary Halloween candy will be available for town residents. Also, there will be a bouncy house, crafts, and a photo wagon to enjoy from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. Some of the games will include “Bones Ring Toss,” “Ball in a Skull Throw,” and “Pin a Crow on the Scarecrow.”
In addition, the Lions are preparing for their annual Thanksgiving/Holiday Turkey Drive” by seeking donations and pledges to buy turkeys. The local stores usually provide complimentary turkeys, but the Lions wish to increase the community’s support and offer more turkeys (and hams) to area residents. A table will be set up at the Halloween carnival for donations. You may “buy” a turkey leg for $5 or “buy” a full turkey for $20. The Yorktown Lions’ goal is to collect and/or buy 200 turkeys (some hams) for distribution to local food pantries during the holiday season beginning with Thanksgiving. If you would like to make a donation to the holiday food drive, go to the Yorktown Lions website or Facebook page.
This year’s parade and carnival will be dedicated to Lion Cherie Frechette, who unfortunately passed away this year. Cherie served as chair of the Halloween parade and carnival for a number of years and truly captured the spirit of Halloween.
