Yorktown Warns of Application Fee Scam Targeting Planning Applications

The Town of Yorktown is alerting the public to an application fee scam targeting individuals and businesses with applications pending before the Planning Board. Town staff has received numerous reports from applicants who were on the Planning Board's agenda indicating they received fraudulent emails requesting application fees be paid via wire transfer. These emails used a fake email address impersonating Planning Director John Tegeder.

Yorktown NEVER sends invoices requesting payment via wire transfer. Applicants should contact the Planning Department directly regarding any fee requests.

To ensure the legitimacy of any application fees, applicants are advised to:

  • Carefully review the sender’s email address. Emails from Yorktown staff end with: @yorktownny.gov.
  • Never respond to emails requesting payment via wire transfer.
  • Independently verify any fee requests by contacting the Planning Department, 914-962-6565.
  • Applicants can obtain a copy of the official fee schedule by contacting the Planning Department.

The Town of Yorktown is committed to protecting its residents and applicants from fraudulent activities. Anyone who has received a suspicious email from Yorktown should report it to the Yorktown Police Department at 914-962-4141.
