The Yorktown Museum presents: First Community LEGO® Building Competition

Community Lego Building CompetitionThink you’ve got what it takes to be a future LEGO® Master Builder? We’d love to see it! From July 14, 2025 to July 18, 2025 by 3 pm, we will be accepting builds for our first Community LEGO® Build Competition.

All ages are welcome, but here’s the catch: To be eligible for one of our top three prizes, your creation must be a reflection of our competition theme of “Masterpieces.”

We want to see builds inspired by your favorite work of art or the everyday things around you that you consider extraordinary. What does extraordinary look like to you?

Early Yorktown

 

The Sylvia Thorne Rooms

Lift the latch on the weathered door and enter a two room home ca. 1750-1850. The warm and welcoming kitchen, complete with open hearth fireplace, table set for a meal and the mellow flow of antique wood and pewter, invite each visitor to tarry a while and savor a  bygone era.

 

 

Railroading

 

The Bob McKeand Room

A recreation of the Yorktown Depot area circa 1950 features a HO scale model layout ... a delight for both young and old railroad enthusiasts, be they historians or model train buffs. Old Put line devotees will be thrilled by the large collection of Put artifacts and photos on display. Step back in time and once again "ride the rails" of the old Put!

 

 

Miniatures

 

The Marjorie Johnson Room

A fascinating "small world" awaits! Enchanting miniature rooms and houses, each displaying a variety of small scale furnishings. The star of this exhibit is the lovely late Victorian house filled to the attic with tiny treasures and it's specially noted for the "stone" work at its base, its 8,000 hand cut clapboards and mysterious ghost!

 

 

Farming

 

The Arthur C. Lee Room

From ice-cutting to spring plowing, the cycle of seasons on the farm represented by original tools. Most tools displayed were donated by area residents once used in their homes and on their farms. Find out how much you know about farm tools by trying the Q & A board. An unusual experience!

 

 

 

Woodlands

 

Woodlands Room

Experience the lifestyle & culture of Westchester's first inhabitants, the Mohegan Indians. Enter the predawn setting of a Mohegan village. Let your eyes adjust to the darkness as you listen to the sounds of the forest and river as the settlement, portrayed through murals and replica of a longhouse, becomes more visible. Imagine the smoke rise through the smoke hole. Experience the Mohegan lifestyle.

The Museum carries an array of books pertaining to Hudson River Valley history and other interests. Many written by local authors!

We are one of the few remaining locations to carry miniatures! We have handcrafted accessories, DIY dollhouse kits and construction/landscape materials for room boxes and HO scale model trains. Many items are one-of-a-kind treasures and available only at our shop.

We also have a selection of Yorktown history books written by local authors.

The proceeds from the Gift Shop directly benefit the museum's displays and programs. Currently we are cash only.
