The mission of Shrub Oak International School is to improve the lives of children, adolescents, and young adults on the autism spectrum. We help our students form positive relationships through individualized strength-based and passion-based learning, and equip them with the tools they need to develop friendships, navigate their communities, and maximize their potential. Our singular focus is each student’s success and happiness.
Unequaled Student Experience: SOIS's innovative boarding and day programs, academics, life skills, and clinicla intervention are elements of every part of a student's day to maximize therapeutic and learning opportunities. The curriculum is grounded in the evidence-based principles of the SCERTS Model and Ziggurat Intervention. The highly skilled faculty incorporate Universal Design for Transition practices into Structured Teaching (TEACHH methods) and the Self-Determined Learning Model of Instruction to enhance engagement and learning. Real-life academic and social interpersonal skills are reinforced in job internships in local communities.
Student life is rich with experiences that stimulate students' interests and expand their life skills. Campus activities include varied art studio work, music, swimming, sports, yoga, drama, horticulture, farming, and equestrian and animal therapy. Outings include utilization of Westchester and New York City resources such as, museums, theater, outdoor markets, and a wealth of other experiences.
Modern, Technology-Infused Campus: Set 127 acres located less than an hour from New York City, students learn in an environment full of sensory experiences that are enhanced by technology when appropriate. All aspects of the grounds and buildings have state-of-the-art security systems that keep residents safe.
