On August 7, 2013, Eugene Lang, Neil Gross, Dale Novak, the Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 21 New York, and the Town Board held a ceremony designating Yorktown as a Purple Heart Town.

The Committee currently meets on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 7 PM at the Albert A. Capellini Community & Cultural Center located at 1974 Commerce Street, Yorktown Heights, NY 10598.

Yorktown's American Legion has been active in the community since it’s chartering in 1928. The Post teams up with other civic organizations like the Rotary Club, Lions Club, and Garden Club for mutually beneficial events. 

The Sons of the American Legion Squadron 1009, Yorktown Heights, NY was Chartered on November 11, 2017. We are dedicated to honoring our Fathers or Grandfathers by supporting American Legion Post #1009 and ALL our Veterans!

The Veterans of Foreign Wars is an organization of U.S. war veterans, who, as military service members fought in wars, campaigns, and expeditions on foreign land, waters, or airspace.
