Clio
What is Clio?
- Clio is an educational website and mobile application that guides the public to thousands of historical and cultural sites throughout the United States.
- Named after the Greek muse of history, simply put, Clio puts history at your fingertips. Check out these Clio tutorials:
Your Guide to History: https://youtu.be/3ydzv9nY-Oo
The Value of History: https://youtu.be/G9mrBFlup1s
- Clio picks up your present location and guides you to landmarks, museums, and historic and cultural sites. It also acts as a virtual time machine, allowing you to see images and videos and hear and read about associated historic events.
- Clio is not only a website and free mobile application but also a collaborative research, interpretation, and map-building vehicle. Entries are created by museum professionals, local historians, educators and their students.
- The Westchester County Historical Society (WCHS) is partnering with the Clio development team at Marshall University to create entries for the county’s important historic and cultural sites. And one of our own Yorktown’s Heritage Preservation Commission members is assisting the WCHS with this effort, creating Yorktown entries as well.
How can Clio be accessed?
- To take a look at the Yorktown and other county entries, log on to Clio at:
https://theclio.com
- You can search for entries by title, zip code, proximity, and for walking tours and heritage trails.
- You will find entries for several of Yorktown’s landmarked structures: Albert A. Capellini Community & Cultural Center, Old Croton Dam, Yorktown Railroad Station, Davenport House and the Amawalk Friend’s Meeting House.
- Homes of Historic Distinction found in Clio include One Room Schoolhouse, Morrison Manor and the Daniel Strang Homestead.
- We are working to enter all Yorktown landmarks and homes of historic distinction into Clio to educate and build awareness locally and across the nation to our robust historic legacy.
