Old Crompond Road Bridge Reopens
Yorktown reopened a bridge today on Old Crompond Road after replacing a 106-year-old structure.
“We met our goal of a December reopening while respecting the state’s environmental concerns,” said Supervisor Ed Lachterman.
A severe storm in 2023 damaged the bridge, requiring its replacement.
“Many thanks to our highway workers and contractors for getting this job done. The detour on White Hill Road is less safe during the winter, so this reopening comes just in time,” said highway Superintendent Dave Paganelli.
Environmental regulations protecting stream trout and other wildlife limited the replacement work over the past two years to four months annually until Yorktown officials and Assemblyman Matt Slater successfully negotiated an extension of time from the state Department of Environmental Conservation.
“Thank you to our partners at the Department of Environmental Conservation for working with Yorktown to ensure this project was completed. I was happy to facilitate the needed collaboration which ultimately benefits the residents by having a safe modern bridge to use,” said Assemblyman Slater.
