Rochambeau Festival Set For June 6-7 in Yorktown, N.Y.
Relive the dawn of the Revolutionary War at the fourth-annual Rochambeau Festival, a two-day immersive weekend honoring a crucial turning point in American history.
From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 6 and 7, Rochambeau Park (also widely known as the Yorktown Grange Fair Grounds) will be transformed into a bustling 18th-century wartime encampment. The festival honors French General Jean-Baptiste Donatien de Vimeur, comte de Rochambeau, and his army, whose critical aid to General George Washington secured America's victory over Great Britain.
The venue itself is steeped in history; the grounds serve as one of the exact locations where French forces camped in 1781 and 1782—an area then known as Crompond—before the site was formally dedicated to General Rochambeau.
History buffs and families can expect:
- Revolutionary Skirmishes & Tactics: Watch smoke rise and muskets fire during live reenactments of Revolutionary War skirmishes and precise military tactical demonstrations.
- Living History Debates: Witness tense, period-accurate political debates hosted at a recreation of the historic "Hunt’s Tavern."
- Camp Life & Culture: Experience daily 18th-century life firsthand through colonial craft demonstrations, traditional games, and heritage booths.
- Guided Bus Tours: Take a deep dive into local history with a dedicated bus tour exploring Yorktown’s Revolutionary encampment sites.
- Food & Entertainment: Enjoy live music, performances, and a diverse selection of food and beverages throughout the day.
The historical immersion doesn't end when the daytime gates close. On Saturday evening at 6 p.m., the festival will host a special Colonial Dinner.
Guests will have the unique opportunity to dine alongside reenactors and fellow history enthusiasts. The evening features a curated menu of Colonial-style food and live performances of original songs rooted in the ideals of the American Revolution.
Admission to the daytime festival is free to the public, though organizers request a $15 fee per carload for all-day parking. Rochambeau Park is located at 99 Moseman Road, Yorktown Heights, N.Y.
Tickets for Saturday night's Colonial Dinner are priced at $58.90 per person. Due to limited seating in the historic setting, advanced registration is highly recommended. Dinner tickets can be purchased online via SimpleTix.
Whether visitors seek to witness a battlefield tactical demonstration, explore real encampment grounds, or simply enjoy a day of live music and food, the Rochambeau Festival promises a memorable weekend celebrating the international alliance that forged a nation.
