Proclamation Honoring National Police Week

May 10 – May 16, 2026 

WHEREAS, the men and women of law enforcement agencies across our nation serve with courage, integrity, and dedication, often placing themselves in harm’s way to protect the lives, rights, and property of others; and

WHEREAS, during National Police Week, we recognize and honor the sacrifices made by police officers, deputies, troopers, investigators, dispatchers, corrections personnel, and all members of the law enforcement community; and

WHEREAS, these public servants work tirelessly to preserve peace, uphold justice, strengthen community trust, and respond to emergencies with professionalism and compassion; and

WHEREAS, we remember with profound gratitude those officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty and stand in support of the families, friends, and colleagues who carry their memory forward; and

WHEREAS, strong partnerships between law enforcement and the communities they serve are essential to maintaining safe neighborhoods and fostering mutual respect and understanding; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting that we pause to express appreciation for the all the dedicated individuals who answer the call to serve and protect each and every day, especially the exceptional men and women of the Yorktown Police Department; 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Edward Lachterman, Supervisor, along with the Town Board of the Town of Yorktown, do hereby proclaim May 10 – May 16, 2026 as

National Police Week

in the town of Yorktown, and encourage all residents to join in honoring the service, sacrifice, and commitment of our law enforcement professionals.
