Yorktown Issues Condemnation Order For Defunct Shrub Oak Tire Shop

The Town of Yorktown has condemned a derelict tire shop in Shrub Oak.

The building at 1378 E. Main Street once housed a business called Under Care, but it has been vacant and deteriorating since at least 2009. The town’s condemnation order gives the property owner 30 days to either demolish the structure or begin comprehensive renovations to bring it up to code.

Following the issuance of the order, the owner notified the Town of their intent to perform the necessary work to restore the property.

“My philosophy is get it done or get rid of it. They understand that and they are taking care of the building,” said Yorktown Supervisor Ed Lachterman.

Under the Town Code, Yorktown’s building inspector is authorized to condemn structures deemed unsafe, unsanitary, or otherwise unfit for human habitation.

Situated within the A&P Shopping Center and directly across the street from St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, the eyesore has long been a point of concern for residents.

The Town Building Department will continue to monitor the site closely to ensure that all renovations meet safety standards and proceed according to the agreed-upon timeline.
