Yorktown to Celebrate Mohegan Lake Day on July 11
Lake Mohegan’s annual Lake Day on July 11 includes a fishing derby, games, crafts, wildlife encounters and other entertainment.
This year’s theme is “Celebrating Lake Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness on our Nation’s 250th Anniversary.” The observance of our nation’s milestone includes storytelling and a show and tell of colonial toys; a description of what happened in Yorktown during the nation’s struggle for independence; and how Yorktown got its name.
The free events are sponsored by the Mohegan Lake Improvement District.
The day kicks off with a kids’ fishing derby (poles and bait provided) from 9:30-11:00 A.M. at Mohegan Beach Park (3339 Lakeshore Drive).
The highlight of Lake Day occurs at 8:45 P.M., with the serene and beautiful sight of sending off Chinese floating lanterns on the lake. The events will close with an outdoor film, Episode Five of the Documentary Series on the “Peekskill Riots,” followed by a Q & A with the filmmaker Jon Scott Bennett.
A full lineup of the day’s events is posted on the Town’s website. The rain date is July 12.
There will be a water taxi for transportation between beaches.
