Yorktown's Library Begins Summer Reading Game
The John C. Hart Memorial Library invites families to an afternoon of fun at the Summer Reading Kickoff.
The event on Friday, June 26, runs from 2 to 4 p.m. and it includes a Bubble Bus, four magic shows by Myron the Magnificent, a photo booth, lawn games and more! This year, when patrons register for the Summer Reading Game, they will receive a wristband for access to these great activities.
“It’s a great way to celebrate the last day of school and to introduce the Summer Reading theme for this year, ‘Unearth a Story.’ Our new Beanstack app makes it easy for readers of all ages to track their progress and stay engaged all summer long,” said Library Director Yvonne Cech. “Reading throughout the summer helps build strong literacy skills while fostering a lifelong love of books. Join us for a season of reading and discovery at the library.”
Save time, register in advance, and get a wristband upon arrival at the event. Do this by downloading the Beanstack app and registering for the Summer Reading Challenge.
“A love of reading is steppingstone for a child’s success,” said Supervisor Ed Lachterman. “This fundamental skill must be cultivated in the summer so that children don’t forget what they learned during the year, a phenomenon many teachers call the summer slide.”
