Yorktown's Memorial Day Events Scheduled for May 25th
The Town of Yorktown and veterans’ organizations will host a series of commemorative services and the annual parade for Memorial Day on Monday, May 25.
Residents are invited to join in the long-standing tradition of actively honoring the ancestors, family members, loved ones, neighbors, and friends who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation.
“Memorial Day is a profound reminder of the debt we owe to the brave men and women who never returned home,” said Yorktown Supervisor Ed Lachterman. “It is our absolute responsibility as a community to gather and remember those who died protecting our freedoms.”
The day’s events are co-sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), the American Legion, and the Town of Yorktown.
The town has planned a series of morning ceremonies across various local landmarks to pay tribute to fallen heroes from different eras of conflict:
- 9:00 AM — Vietnam Memorial Ceremony at Lakeland High School, east side of campus.
- 10:00 AM — World War II Memorial Ceremony at the John C. Hart Memorial Library with the assistance of the Lake Mohegan Fire Department.
- 11:00 AM — Ceremony at Veterans Memorials Circle behind Town Hall.
- 11:30 AM — Annual Memorial Day Parade from Town Hall to Veterans Road the VFW and American Legion posts.
All residents, families, and visitors are encouraged to attend the ceremonies and line the parade route to show their support for Yorktown's veteran community and honor the memory of the nation's fallen service members.
