In a continuing effort to support neighbors in need, the ShopRite of Cortlandt held a special ceremony Thursday morning to present a $2,500 donation to St. Mary’s Pantry in Mohegan Lake.
Today, the Town of Yorktown joins the rest of the nation in observing National Medal of Honor Day. The day is dedicated to the few who have displayed conspicuous gallantry at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty.
A community vigil will be held to honor the beautiful life of Sheridan Gorman at Jack DeVito Veterans Memorial Field on Saturday, March 28th at 6 PM.
Beginning on Tuesday, March 24 at 12 PM, Route 6N will be closed between Pine Tree Lane and Trailer Court in Mahopac through May 22 for a culvert replacement project. Drivers should use the posted detour and plan for possible delays or take alternate routes.
Yorktown turned grief into action as the community rallied around the annual Captain Kenneth Sgroi Act of Kindness Day, a tradition that blends remembrance with hands-on support for neighbors in need. This year’s effort, led by the Yorktown Police Department, featured a donation drive benefiting United for The Troops, which sends comfort items to service members overseas, and the DiNoia family, who lost their Yorktown home in a devastating fire on February 1.
Yorktown will celebrate New York State Maple Weekend on March 21-22 and 28-29 with events highlighting the local maple syrup industry. The festivities kick off with the annual Pancake Breakfasts at the Yorktown Grange Hall. The celebration continues at White Oak Farm, which will host an open house and demonstration of maple syrup production.

The Yorktown Town Board voted Tuesday to deny Homeland Towers LLC’s applications to construct a new cell phone tower at 62 Granite Springs Road. The board’s rejection targeted the developer's lease, wetlands, stormwater, and tree applications, effectively halting a project that had become a lightning rod for local debate.
