Entering 6th graders:

  • Our Travel Camp will be the main option for entering 6th-grade campers. This program is specifically designed to meet the social and developmental needs of middle-schoolers, featuring daily excursions to regional attractions, team-building challenges, and off-site adventures. We believe this provides the most engaging and age-appropriate environment for this group. Please refer to the Travel Camp section of this page for more information on tentative trip locations, schedule and more.
  • Full Day Camp will have a limited number of spots for entering 6th graders. Similar to all camp sign-ups these spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Once the cap is reached, additional interested families will be placed on a waitlist.  This will be a separate sign-up for only 6th graders, so please remember to specifically click on this option during registration for your 6th grader.

Entering 7th-9th graders:

The Travel Camp is the only available camp option for campers in this grade range. Please refer to the Travel Camp section of this page for more information on what our Travel Camp offers.

How to Register:

If you are registering for the Full Day option for entering 6th grade, the programs will be listed on Community Pass as seen below. Note that entering 6th graders will not be eligible for the regular Yorktown Full Day and Lakeland Full Day options.

Initial registration is limited. We try our best to accommodate as many campers as possible while being in accordance with Department of Health counselor-to-camper ratio mandates. If the website says registration is full, please put your child(ren) on the waitlist for your desired camp. As we hire more camp counselors and spaces become available, we will reach out to families on the waitlist. Note, to fully be added to the waitlist you will have to proceed with checkout on the Community Pass website. There is no charge for being added to the waitlist. Please ensure all contact information on the Community Pass account is accurate.

School District residents are those who attend the Yorktown or Lakeland School Districts but are not Town of Yorktown taxpayers. We allow school district residents to register for our day camps at the resident rate alongside residents.

When registering online using Community Pass, any account not on the Yorktown Tax Roll is marked as nonresident, which will include many School District resident accounts. This will block your ability to register. In order to be able to register online without interruption, please call the Recreation Department PRIOR to the camp registration date to be made exempt. This will allow you to register on time without any difficulties.

Recreation Department: 914-245-4650

Should you need to visit camp, contact the Camp Director using the Camp Phone to schedule a meeting. Upon confirmation of your arrival, call the Camp Phone so a Camp Staff Member may assist you.

For the safety of our campers, no unauthorized visitors are allowed on our camp sites. Should your camper require a repeated outside visitor that is NOT their parent/guardian (ex. Speech Language Pathologist), that information MUST be reported to the Camp Operator at least ONE MONTH prior to the start of camp and approved before arriving at the camp location. Visitors to the camp locations must be authorized or they will be turned away.

TRAVEL CAMP FAQ'S

The Camp Director will be provided a department issued cell phone for parents/guardians to reach out to during the camp day.

Phone #: TBD

CELL PHONES AT CAMP: Travel Campers are permitted to bring their cell phones to camp, but must remain turned off and stored in the camper's bag during the camp activity. Campers will be provided scheduled opportunities to check messages at the discretion of the Camp Director. These instances may include sending notification of delayed return. Should a camper not bring a cell phone and needs to reach out to their parent/guardian they will be allowed to utilize the Camp Director's phone.

If cell phones or other mobile devices are used inappropriately or create safety concerns, they will be banned for the remainder of the season.

Please note Yorktown Parks and Recreation is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged phones or other personal belongings. Campers are responsible for all belongings, including clothing, money, phones or any other valuables. Staff cannot hold or secure personal items for campers.

Travel Camp maintains a 1:8 staff-to-camper ratio, which includes Counselors, Camp Directors and Medical Specialist. At minimum, each group will have one counselor for every ten campers.

All counselors are 18 years or older and/or have prior supervisory experience. Leadership staff are certified in Advanced First Aid and CPR in accordance with Westchester County Department of Health requirements.

Campers are expected to remain with their assigned group and staff at all times during trips. A buddy system is enforced daily. Depending on the location, campers may be divided into smaller, manageable sub-groups that remain together throughout the trip.

At each camp trip location, the Camp Director dictates a meeting location that all staff and campers must check in at throughout the trip day.

MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS: The Travel Camp has a designated Medical Specialist that attends every day of camp. The Medical Specialist is Advanced First Aid, CPR and AED certified and carries with them a camp issued AED and First Aid Kit on every trip.

All campers must have a complete immunization record on file, as required by the New York State Department of Health. Campers cannot attend camp without this record.

If a camper requires medication during the day, a Medication Permission Form must be completed and all medications must be submitted in the original container to the Medical Specialist on the first day of camp. Be sure any medication at camp is not expired. Expired medication will not be accepted.

Drop-off begins at 8:45AM at the designated location (TBD). Busses will be parked outside the designated location, so please refrain from blocking this area with your vehicle. Please park in the parking lot and have your camper report to the meeting location. Do not drop off campers at the camp location unattended.

Busses depart promptly at 9:00AM. Transportation does not stop once busses are departing. Campers should arrive on time.

Pick-up will be at the same designated location as drop-off. Pick-up times do vary depending on the trip's location. Please be sure to check with the trip schedule to ensure pick-up time for that day. Should there be changes to the pick-up times due to delays, weather etc., campers will reach out to parents/guardians with that information.

Each day the Travel Camp visits a different location to participate in scheduled activities. The schedule includes trips to various amusement parks, arcades, ropes courses, shows, sports games and more. The tentative trip schedule above has links to each location's website. Feel free to visit these location's website to learn more about what the trip has to offer.

Travel Camp is a Monday-Thursday camp, there is no camp on Fridays. Camp will be held Monday, July 6th-Thursday, July 30th.

All scheduled trips are covered by your camp registration fees. Additional expenses such as meals at venues, gift shop purchases, locker rentals or souvenirs are not included.

Yes. All travel campers MUST complete a swim test provided by our staff Water Safety Instructor prior to the start of camp. If you have concerns regarding your camper's swimming ability and participation in water activities, please inform our office in writing before camp begins. Campers will not participate in waves pools and staff will take appropriate precautions during water-based trips.

Swim Testing:

  • Friday June 19th: 4:00PM - 7:00PM - Brian J Slavin Aquatic Facility (Shrub Oak Park)
  • Saturday June 20th: 11:00AM - 4:00PM - Brian J Slavin Aquatic Facility (Shrub Oak Park)
  • Saturday June 27th: 11:00AM - 4:00PM - Brian J Slavin Aquatic Facility (Shrub Oak Park)

All campers must attend one of the above swim testing dates. You may arrive at the pool facility at any time within the timeframe set and inform the Gate Attendant that you are there for Travel Camp Swim Testing. Please note that the WSI does leave at the designated end time - come at least 10-15 minutes before the end time (6:45pm or 3:45pm).

Trip schedules are subject to change, particularly in the event of inclement weather. A rainy-day alternative such as bowling or a movie may be implemented. While we do our best to reschedule canceled trips, some may not be made up due to venue availability or scheduling constraints. Missed trips are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Campers must wear a camp-issued T-Shirt or Tank Top every day as required by the Westchester County Department of Health Camp Code. This helps staff easily identify campers during off-site trips.

Each camper will receive one (1) T-Shirt and one (1) Tank Top. Tees and tanks will be made available for pick up in the Recreation Office prior to the camp start. An email notification will be sent out to all participants notifying when these will be available. Additional shirts may be purchased at $5.00 each while supplies last.

Shirts may not be altered, cut or modified. Replacement shirts will be available for $5.00 each.

Casual, weather appropriate clothing should be worn each day. Comfortable shoes such as sneakers are highly recommended. A change of clothing for water trips or inclement weather should be packed as well.

Lunch is not provided on most trips. Campers will need to either bring lunch in a waterproof, insulated container or bring money to purchase food. Note that some parks are now cashless - plan accordingly.

Pack nonperishable items and avoid tree nut products due to allergies.

The following trips will provide lunch. Menus will be provided prior to camp via email:

  • Medieval Times
  • Club Getaway
  • Dave & Busters

These locations have allergy-friendly options. Please inform the Camp Operator of diet restrictions prior to the start of camp so accommodations can be made.

It is recommended to pack a lunch/snack on trips with food provided should a camper prefer not to partake in the provided lunch option.
