Aquatics Seasonal Employment

Lifeguard Job Description: Lifeguards are an essential part of our summer team, ensuring patron safety at all the Town of Yorktown aquatic facilities including the Junior Lake Pool, Brian J. Slavin Aquatic Facility and Sparkle Lake Beach. Responsibilities include:

  • Monitor aquatic areas to prevent accidents and ensure a safe environment for all guests.
  • Enforce facility rules, policies, and safety regulations at both assigned locations. 
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies, including water rescues and first aid situations
  • Administer first aid, CPR, and AED when necessary.
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with patrons, staff, and supervisors
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures as required at both facilities.

Lifeguard Eligibility: Must be at least 15 years of age. Candidates must possess American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification OR American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguarding Certification OR other NYS Health Department approved equivalent certification, AND hold American Red Cross Basic Life Support for the Professional Rescuer CPR or American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR (or other NYS Health Department approved equivalent). The CPR must be recertified on an annual basis (regardless of 2-year issued certification). Acceptable certifications can be found here for Lifeguarding and CPR and in Supporting Documents. 

Gate Attendant: Must be at least 15 years of age. Gate Attendants are responsible for:

  • Greeting and checking members into the pool facility using the membership card scanner.
  • Collecting gate or guest fees in cash. 
  • Providing patrons with proper information about pool hours and dates on a daily basis.
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures as required at both facilities.

Experience with cash registers & counting money is preferred but not required. 

Snack Bar Attendant: Must be at least 15 years of age. Snack Bar Attendants will:

  • Greet customers, answer menu questions, and process transactions using cash or point-of-sale systems. 
  • Stock food, beverages and supplies.
  • Clean and maintain food prep areas, counters and dining spaces according to health codes.
  • Set up and break down equipment at the start and end of shifts. 

Attendants do not need a background in preparing food, all items are prepackaged.

Experience with cash registers & counting money is preferred but not required.
