What is the Do Not Knock Registry?
On September 15, 2026, the Town Board passed Local Law #8 of 2026, creating a Do Not Knock Registry to prohibit solicitors, vendors and canvassers from approaching residential homes that have expressly requested to be listed on the Town's “Do Not Knock Registry.” The Do Not Knock Registry is a list of addresses at which door-to-door solicitation is prohibited within the Town of Yorktown.
How can I sign up for the Do Not Knock Registry?
The best way to sign up is to complete the online form Do Not Knock Registry or you can come in person to the Town Clerk’s office, 363 Underhill Avenue, Yorktown Heights, NY 10598 and fill out the form. Upon receipt of your address you will be added to the Registry.
If I sign up for the Registry, will the Town give my name to solicitors?
No. The solicitors receive a list of addresses they are prohibited from approaching.
What should I do if a solicitor knocks on my door after I sign up for the Do Not Knock Registry?
Immediately call the Yorktown Police Department 914-962-4141 to report the incident. Calling immediately helps to locate the solicitor sooner by police.
Will this keep everyone from knocking on my door?
In accordance with the Constitution of the United States and rulings of the United States Supreme Court, please be advised that registration upon the “Do Not Knock Registry” shall in no way prohibit door to door solicitation by religious or political organizations.
What if I don’t want to be on the Do Not Knock Registry any longer?
You can be removed from the Registry at any time by submitting the Remove from Registry Form and submit via email to the Town Clerk at [email protected] or you may submit the form in person or by mail to the Town Clerk’s Office, 363 Underhill Avenue, Yorktown Heights, NY 10598. Upon receipt your address will be removed from the Registry.
